Why Engineering Colleges are shutting down?

Why Engineering Colleges are shutting down? The boom in Information technology based service industry during the time period 2000 to 2010 led to increase in the number of engineering colleges in India. Majority of these engineering colleges where mostly established by politicians, small scale businessmen, and individuals who wanted use privatisation of higher education as a mean to enhance their wealth and power in the society. Though the regulatory body like AICTE have been regulating the quality of the education, they have miserably failed improve the quality of education at large. The structured curriculum delivered through, outdated university system has not created professionals who are up-to-date with technological changes. Other than the IT service industry and traditional manufacturing industries majority of the 16 Lakhs engineers don’t find employment or able to be technical entrepreneurs like developed countries. When one looks deeper into the current state of engineering education the answers are crystal clear, 1. The technological changes have led to more job opportunities outside IT industry and automation in the developed countries has led to decline of skilled manpower in the IT service sector. 2. Engineering education has become manufacturing industry rather than learning centres. Volume of students: AICTE based on the facilities available for the conduct of courses allots minimum number of intakes per disciplines .Normally this number is 60 per discipline at Bachelors level and 18 at Master level. Considering the rigorous nature of engineering and technology education this is huge number to be trained especially at the undergraduate level. Quality of Intake at Undergraduate Engineering courses: Students passing from the 10 + 2 system of secondary school education with mathematics as a subject along with Physics, Chemistry are eligible to apply for the engineering colleges undergraduate programs. To fill the number of seats that has been allocated to the engineering colleges in each discipline of undergraduate degree programs the entrance level qualification in-in-terms of mark secured have been lowered bare minimum of 45 % in the qualifying School leaving examination that securing a seat in an engineering course has become so easier. Syllabus Up gradation: Since all the engineering colleges are affiliated to Technical University in that particular state upgrading syllabus with respect to changing technology has become tedious process in getting consensus syllabus across the country. The syllabus created being centralized doesn’t provide flexibility to innovate where ever required as per the location needs. Lack of need based delivery: Most of the engineering colleges function like manufacturing industry. Most of the courses are delivered to structured syllabus with specific text books and laboratories exercises. This is turn creates apathy among students in creative thinking and experimentation. The methods of evaluation is about the volume of information known in a particular subject rather than the depth of understanding a student has in particular subject. Lack of applied engineering: Most of the subjects are delivered through theoretical means rather practical mode .Route learning has become the fulcrum of education. Most of the engineering colleges have readymade laboratory equipment for the training purposes. Irrespective of the discipline of engineering most of the laboratory exercises are standardized. Experiments are always performed on the training equipment in groups rather in individual nature. This method of teaching and learning process has resulted in growth of many small and medium scale industries which supply readymade equipment to setup laboratories for the listed experiments. Lack of Quality Professors Engineering colleges lack quality teaching professionals. Since most of the professors have graduated from similar type of engineering colleges. There has been constant neglect of research and development at college level since the academic culture and environment is not created by the Postgraduate degree holding professionals. Most of the doctorates who are currently employed as teachers in engineering colleges lack the depth of engineering skills. They have got degrees for the post and promotion not for the love of science. Somehow the quality of engineering doctoral degrees has not sufficed the quality of teaching. Since their methods of learning, researching and thought process is similar to that of undergraduate engineering education. Teachers mostly lack the practical skills in engineering. Engineering is basically design and construction. When such teachers stand in the classroom and theoretically explain concepts on white boards rather than experimentally presenting them and correlating with theoretical aspects, the students end up as memorizing USB sticks. Many of the engineering college teachers lack even the basic skill sets minimum required to develop any engineering design on their own. Engineering Colleges as Profit centres: Though privatization of engineering colleges has contributed in immensely to progress of IT and IT enabled sector majority of the colleges run as profit centres .Private investors look at engineering colleges as a profit centres and the number of colleges have grown over the years due to rampant corruption at large. Establishing and running an engineering college has become a goal oriented business model. AICTE and UGC regulates the fees to be charged by the private run engineering colleges .But there has not been a standard evaluation model to assess on the fees collected and the investment made on the infrastructure development like laboratories ,library and other campus amenities. Even though some colleges fulfil these minimum requirement they have failed to inspire students to use these infrastructure. Decline in core disciplines: Starting from late 90s the growth in the service industry has resulted in total decline of traditional and fundamental areas of engineering and technology. Students and parental focus on short term service jobs has resulted in huge surge in the number of students enrolled in Information Technology and Software related courses. So there has been a steep decline in the core disciplines like electrical, mechanical and civil engineering at both Bachelors and Masters Level. In the NASSCOM-Mckenzie report it has been observed that 9 million engineering students will go for the IT/ITES sectors and BPO creating six million vacancies in the manufacturing sectors, retail and transportation. Focus on English language and Aptitude Test: Most of the engineering colleges are more focused on providing employment to students in the IT service industry and BPO’s through placements. Students are encouraged only to improve their English spoken skills and aptitude solving techniques. Since the industry requirement is limited towards programming and debugging huge programs for back office work and employment is easy focus on core areas of engineering is side-lined and curriculum developed ends up only being benchmark to pass evaluation process. Societal Issues: The economic growth in the IT service industry has resulted in the societal consciousness that getting engineering degree is the stepping stone to success .This has resulted in the pressure among students to pursue engineering degree though the individual may not have an inclination toward engineering .Its societal respect and recognition given for engineers that has resulted in decline in the quality of the students passing out with engineering degrees. As per the report of the NASSCOM-Mckenzie report only 25 % of the graduates of the engineering colleges are employable. Quality of Postgraduate Engineering Education: As the number of seats in Bachelor degree in IT related engineering disciplines were increased to meet the requirements of IT industry from 2000, the demand for qualified engineering professors increased, this led to creation of more specialized courses based on the American model of Postgraduate education .M.Tech and M.E courses were approved and launched across many engineering colleges which have completed 4 years of operation and have required Accreditation as per the norms of AICTE. Similar to the undergraduate curriculum the PG curriculum was structured and rigid .Such a curriculum cannot offer scope for research as part of the curriculum. This has led to grooming of below quality teachers in engineering education.

Mother Inda Bleeding -Gender Inequality in Modern India-why it cant develop further?

In a country where women are worshipped as GOD , preceived the bearer of culture etc ,India is ranked one the lowest in terms (0.72) of Women Equality in society ,Indian women havent fared better even after all growth in last 2 decades ,its sad that even today maximum rape ,female infant mortality ,domestic violence and Urban inequality are higeshst in the world. In India after boasting so much about heritage and history women are just used as sex machines, bonded labourers in families and morally & physically abused class in the society .

The statistics are based on reports and recorded incidents ,if the incidents which are not recorded ,which are not reported its very dismal scenario. So country of 1.27 billion cannot progress further if the 50 % population is not contributing to the growth.

Worst of it is the case of children who have been abused the maximum in India is just better Sudan and Yemen no-where near the developed countries. What plays around is for 1.27 billion the percentage is huge!!

Brazil ,China and India a comparison? So where is India heading ? Chaos --??? Will it last long with extreme divides ?

In the developing world the major contributors are Brazil, China and India. A brief analysis of the same indicates where the growth possible and the problems they face to distribute wealth and uplift the society as such to the developed state. It will be observed that while Brazil and China are touching the footsteps of Developed countries, India has just woken up towards wealth and welfare distribution. Though the countries differ in-terms of geographical and topological structures the quality of human capital what changes the equation.

Land area: Population

Brazil -5.7 % of World Land area -- 19.22 % of Total world population

China-6.5 % of World Land area -- 2.3 % of Total world population

India – 2.3% of World Land area - - 17.36 % of Total world population

This gives rough idea how the natural resources play around with the density of population, only Brazil and China have enough resources to feed the population.

As understood in simple mathematic as the population grows poverty increases in-terms of volume which is defined by standard of living though access to technology and natural resources.

Though India has achived a lot its not sufficient to feed its own people. The three factors for human species to live are food ,shelter ,health and fourth dimension can be given by adding education to the same. Its pretty clear how the poverty Index shows the state of Indian population ,still 50 % of the poluation cannot afford food per day and also shelter. China and Brazil have been able to redefine the wealth distribution.

If the head count is considered a parameter for analysis ,then its pretty clear that 55 % of the Indian population cannot afford food per day.

so per 100 people 55 people below poverty line in India (I) while Brazil ( B) and China (C) have around 21 people below poverty ,so the wealth distribution required is 2 times that of B anc C. The volume of time and GDP to be spent will more compared to B & C ,this space created a huge vacumm for I to catch up with B & C.

Education

Though India has the largest chunk of world graduates in reality the situation is dismal comapred to B & C.Overall literacy rate is no better than B &C .It wll take another 50 years for India to reach around 90 % literacy rate ,for knowledge based economy this is the foundation.

This is can be futher detailed by understanding the school dropouts comparing the countries. This implies that present educational system is not able cope with huge volume whether in terms of quality or quantity.

Next important factor for a knowledge based society is the access to technology ,though India boasts of 800 million mobile connections ,their applications have limited to telephony rather than information decimation like B & C.

Health

When it comes to health India is not even stand near sub-saharan africa where its far better in terms of access to heathcare .Even in this IT era 90 % of medical equipments have to imported from developed countries. This is because of the education system which doesnt allow to think and create . If cost effective technology has to be created then it has come from the universities while most of our universities are just training centers.

Another important factor of health of the nation is the infant mortality rate while in India its aorund 70 deaths per 1000 B & C fare better around 10 .

This personifies into the life expectancy of citizen while B & C are almost there with developed countries India lags and just there along with poor countries. Considering our public health scenario ,where on earth old age is going to be taken care.

The two factors which determines the future of country in the present competitive and technology oreiented economy is the saving and greenary that has to be consdered. Even here India fasres no better for such a huge population is the area conserved and saving

Reality of Indian Cultute in education system

with limited exposure to administration taking over responsibility has taught lessons thats vital to understand the quality of Indian Work force.

wont work but money required;

though seen fellow Indians work hard outside India, once they are back in India ,their attitute behaviour everything changes ,they become partial and out right fanatics ,,talent resides in each and every human but its not that what they look far ,,they tend to look at others compare and try negative approach ,,

they are neither truthful to the company or association which employs them nor to themselves.

they just use the tag of been abroad and network over years for their selfish motives which is never controlled nor contained which at the end of the day harms the quality of a system

other category is the one which has all the qualifications in hand as per the indian degree systems and doesnt want to work,,because of their qualifications the system ,the big bosses of educaitonal industry in India both in public and private funded system support them

they dont bent their back but want all the laurels
if somebody works they want to take the credit

the worst of the category is the half baked suitcase carrying academicicans who just mint money in name of teaching ,,where the students are not able to comprehend whats going on....

the last of all how long indian education system is going to loath under this fake structure called education

why such huge popualtion with 127 crores brains not able to think

why is that everybody is selfish even in education system

why is that degrees on paper or more valid rather what a person can do and nor

why where are we all heading in education system

just training centres cant sustain this country in the long run

where are the real teachers professors and students why is that everybody just uses technology but not ablke to create

Indian Work Culture

India has one of the longest history of human habitat but still in last 70 years Indians( we all) lost our essence of living standards.

We are ready to ape the west ,use their inventions ,discoveries and then even boast about servicing the same.

We are proud of our achievements in alien lands while our own fellow citizens 65 percent of them go without square meal a day.

We as sub species of the homo sapiens sapiens have mastered the art of hypocrisy while our fellow citizens rape women and at the same time worship them as goddesses.

When it comes to work we are the best in the world in terms of hard work ( based on money)

We never bother whats our motto in life we get some qualifications for the sake of it then demand more for not working in the workplace.

One of our Indian gentleman told me in the pyramid of work and ethics ,we Indians are at the bottom of the pyramid.

We cant take negative criticism, we want all the money for not working instead talking on what all others didn't do.

Indian scenario if funny in terms of capitalist views

Government servants who jump into private sector(same selfish motive ) want to distribute the wealth others have created .

While the private sectors begs the government servants for more reforms to make more profit.

Where is the place for ethics?

Every tom and dick and harry has a degree and wants IT job for servicing .....parents encourage it !! they too want money.

If one does any other work he/she is an outcast!!

For example ,,take the education sector

Recently the supreme court made a judgement about education!!!

After the commercialization and opening up of the education

' education is not commodity and it isn't must a educational entity must provide placement or any other amenities its the duty of student to learn and gain knowledge "

In every education secots of India

Some come to teaching as they dont get any other job

some come to teaching as they can sit and eat

some come to teaching as thats easy way to make money

Very very few come to teaching for the passion and to experiment.

look at this our values in every sector of India form software to edcuation to medical industry to manufacturing ,,,,,funny

If one works and on his own then he/she is a fool and thron in the system
If one works and makes noise he/she is great person in the system

If one returns form abroad he tends to be leader with no head in the name of bringing change ....doses of the with perks
IF one passes out of the great premier institutes of India then he is the fighter who defends other people as if they dont know the laws of the land and enjoy the benefits of government perks ( interms of subsidized cost on education) though most of them arent even rated in top 100 of the world

IF one doesnt want to work then one can write loads of mails and make their presence felt

If one tends to be passionate about work and make noise then he is an idiot

If one sleeps in the chair then he is harmless cat

If one works and has the boss he gets the name

If one sits in the chair and controls everything then he called Hitler ( its waht required in present day indian context)

If one gets into a system then bring whole family ,the same language ,same community ,, same castte ,,same reilgion into the system??????

If one forgets all these then try the next things talk foul about present entity where one works and jthen ump to next entity ( in many industry this far prevelant) do the same.

After jumping for years for the sake of money sit on on on new entity as a bosss and bring it down on a day !!!

so where are our moral and ethical value !!!!!!!

Why cant we Indians work togehter and share the benefits of the hardwork????

Why is it we allways we tend find faults with others while we dont perform our duties?

Why is it we allways want more for not working??

Why is it we need benefits when we dont deserve it ????

Why is it we tend to look down upon others capabilities??

Why is it we think too much of ourselves??

Why is it we cant think neutral??

Why is it we are allways partial ??

Why is it we want everything for doing nothing????

in the next couple decades with such a mentality and meaness we are going nowehere in any domain .

Our graduates cant talk english but want IT/BPO jobs of europe /usa

Our graduates dont want to makes their hands dirty but want high profile jobs

Our graduates dont want to understand but want to change the world

So will service industry solve all our problems ,,,,,,,

While we use mobile we dont make them

While we fly we cant build aeroplanes

While waste time on movies we cant manufature a camera

While boast about ourselves the world moves to next ear buidling new things

Something personal

Life is an interesting journey !!

Nobody is perfect in homo-sapiens,,only species which can express its emotions and thought process through words which makes sense only to that species alone.

Today personally learnt very important lesson in my life.Sometimes you learn it through unexpected incident and in an unconventional way though.

It made me realize ,how I have become stuck up in very own small world ,make imaginary castle for myself and living in it ,,or its like forgotten my old ways which made to reach to the present place of mind and state ,,,,

Are my goals getting detahced or am getting more detahced emtionally ? Other than ? my passion and my work what else do I have ? am i not happy with my present state ? why i am not selfish about my self other than my work ? and how long this can happen?

ya true i will be student all my life learning new things about the universe and about myself.

Good or bad right or wrong I got to be myself at anycost !! As long that internal happiness is there things will follow soon .World is never going to be rosy bed though and theres no point in running away from unexpected events (thats qunatum mechanical system) which can have multiple solutions .the probability of each solution depends on the outcome of the event occurrence that what maths tells and that was life has been teaching me and will teach me till i kick the bucket.

Still kiddish in most of my actions which are spontaneous meaning probabilistic system?

Hey why not a thesis on how emotional volcano like me homo sapiens rabinder henry can be modelled as a system? fantastic topic thats where cognitive science starts .Wish to start it in sometime very soon !!Now back to oldways got to read some technical stuff to make things clearer been long time since i sat with some techno books !!!
